Caring For Your Clip-in Extensions
I’m so glad you chose to add clip-in hair extensions to your bridal style — they really make a huge difference in adding fullness, length, and staying power to your wedding look! They’re a wonderful way to bring your dream hairstyle to life and keep it picture-perfect all day (and night).
Your extensions are a big investment — and with proper care, they can keep looking silky, smooth, and glamorous for many special occasions to come. Here’s a step-by-step guide to make sure you get the most out of them:
Step 1: Gently Detangle
After wearing, brush out your extensions with a wide-tooth comb or soft-bristle brush. Hold the weft/clips firmly with your hand and start brushing at ends and work your way up. Be carful not to snag the wefts!
Step 2: Wash with Care
Wash only when needed! Depending on product build up, you only need to wash your extensions every 10-15 wears. Use lukewarm water and a sulfate-free shampoo. Hold the wefts/clips with your hand and avoid getting them wet to keep from loosening the threads. Wet the hair and massage the shampoo in, rinse thoroughly.
Step 3: Condition
Apply a good moisture focused conditioner about midway down the hair to the ends. Continue to keep the wefts/clips dry to avoid rusting or loosening.
Step 4: Let Dry
Air drying is best! Gently pay dry, try not to wring or twist, then lay on a dry towel to finish drying. If you must use heat, apply a heat protector (like this one) and use a medium temperature at most. Hold the wefts/clips and point the dryer from wefts to ends to avoid tangling.
Step 5: Store safely
Make sure your extensions are completely dry and detangled, then store hanging up or lying flat in a breathable silk/satin bag. Do try to avoid compacting them in drawers or boxes to minimize creasing and friction that can damage the hair, wefts, and/or clips. If you want to elevate your storage, I recommend these bags!
Most of the time, you’ll only need to do steps 1 and 5 (brushing and proper storage). Washing should be kept to a minimum — just when you notice product build-up or a less-fresh texture.
